Our Story
Project Brotherhood began as a health clinic and community-outreach effort for Black men in Chicago’s South Side communities. Established in the Woodlawn neighborhood in 1997 as part of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, the program created a safe, respectful space where men could access care without stigma or judgment.
Guided by a multidisciplinary team of medical staff and social workers, we addressed the root causes of poor health outcomes by meeting men where they are—often through trusted voices in the community, like their barbers.
This approach has shaped a legacy of care, empowerment, and advocacy that continues to grow today
